Microsoft Ads AI around AI Max, Performance Max and Copilot

Microsoft's AI matches queries, sets bids and writes assets inside Microsoft Advertising. We connect Claude through the Bing Ads API, Microsoft's MCP pilot and Clarity for the checks around it. Which changes a person approves is up to you.

What does Microsoft Ads AI do, and where does Claude fit?

Microsoft Ads AI works inside the auction: AI Max for Search, Performance Max and Copilot in the Microsoft Advertising Platform. AILoopwise connects Claude through the Bing Ads API, Microsoft's read-only MCP pilot and Clarity for the work around it: Google import parity, AI Max search terms, CRM offline conversions. You set which changes need a named person's approval.

Where things stand

  • As of 2026-11-04, a scheduled Google import into Microsoft Advertising updates existing bids and campaign budgets by default, unless UpdateBids and UpdateCampaignBudgets are switched off.3
  • Microsoft's blog of 2026-08-27 says AI Max is on by default for new Search campaigns and labels its matches 'AI optimized' in search term reports.11
  • As of 2026-11-04, ApplyOfflineConversions accepts up to 1,000 conversions per request, matched by MSCLKID or a hashed email address or phone number.4,5
  • Microsoft's blog of 2026-06-17 calls its Advertising MCP server an open pilot with read-only access; Claude connects to it as a custom connector.14,13

What we work on in Microsoft Advertising

  • Search campaigns and Import from Google Ads

Microsoft Advertising's keyword Search campaigns on Bing, often created by Import from Google Ads, once or on a Daily, Weekly, Monthly or Auto schedule.

Reading GetImportResults and the ID mapping after each run, and listing what was skipped, edited on Microsoft since, or removed in Google but still live.

Route: Bing Ads API: AddImportJobs, GetImportResults, GetImportEntityIdsMapping.

Limits: Removed Google items stay on Microsoft unless DeleteRemovedEntities is on, and it is off by default.2,3

  • AI Max for Search

Microsoft AI inside standard Search campaigns: search term matching, text customization and final URL expansion, on by default for new Search campaigns.

Reading the 'AI optimized' rows of the search term report against what you sell, and checking generated text against your term exclusions.

Route: The Reporting API's search query performance report; by default, a person sets brand and term exclusions from our proposal.

Limits: Scheduled imports carry AI Max settings over from matching Google campaigns, so a change in Google reaches Microsoft.11,8

  • Performance Max

One campaign across Microsoft Advertising inventory, Copilot included, built from asset groups instead of ad groups; Microsoft AI combines your assets and targeting.

Checking asset group headlines and descriptions against your brand rules, and confirming that the conversion goals it optimises toward measure what you value.

Route: Bing Ads API: a Campaign with CampaignType PerformanceMax, AssetGroup and AudienceGroup.

Limits: Microsoft's API guide lists it as open beta; shared budgets are not supported, and eligible elements import from Google Ads.9,10

  • Copilot in Microsoft Advertising Platform

Microsoft's assistant inside the ad platform: it diagnoses account, campaign and conversion-tracking issues, summarises performance, recommends assets from your URL and creates image, banner and video assets.

Enough for one person asking about one Microsoft account. Microsoft's page does not describe it reading your Google source account, CRM or Clarity, which is where Claude comes in.

Route: Built into the platform; nothing to connect.

Limits: Microsoft's page lists no languages or markets for it.12

  • UET tag and offline conversions

One UET tag on every page feeds conversion goals and remarketing lists; an OfflineConversionGoal takes sales completed in person or over the phone.

Turning CRM stage changes into offline conversions with the right goal name, value and UTC time, then reconciling what Microsoft accepted.

    Route: GetUetTagsByIds, AddConversionGoals, ApplyOfflineConversions.

Limits: Wait two hours after creating the goal; data can take six hours to show in reporting.7,6,4

  • Microsoft Clarity

Session recordings, heatmaps and click-friction metrics. Copilot in Clarity summarises single recordings; the Citations dashboard under AI Visibility shows which pages AI answers cite.

Joining dead, rage and quickback clicks with Microsoft Advertising campaigns, so paid landing pages are judged by what visitors did.

Route: Data Export API for a stored daily pull; Microsoft's Clarity MCP server for questions in Claude.

Limits: Ten export calls per project per day, covering the last one to three days, 1,000 rows.15,16,17,18,19

  • Bing Places for Business

Microsoft's free platform for listings in Bing search results and Bing Maps, now at bing.com/forbusiness, with an import from Google.

A checklist comparing your Bing listing's name, hours and contact details with what you publish elsewhere; a person edits the listing.

Route: Manual. Microsoft's October 2025 announcement names no API, and we found no public API documentation.

Limits: We offer no Bing Places automation.20

  • Microsoft Advertising MCP server

Microsoft's MCP server for live campaign data, usable from Copilot Studio, GitHub Copilot in VS Code, ChatGPT and Claude.

Plain-language account questions and a weekly read-only review, without building API access first.

Route: A custom connector in Claude using your own Entra app registration, with Claude's callback registered as a redirect URI.

Limits: An open pilot, read-only per Microsoft's 2026-06-17 blog; the setup guide states no access level, so we re-check before each build.13,14

How we connect

Microsoft offers its own assistant, two MCP servers and documented APIs. Use the lightest route that does the job.

AI Max for Search, Performance Max and Copilot in the Microsoft Advertising Platform decide matches, bids and assets inside Microsoft's auction, and a build of ours leaves them in charge there. They learn from the conversion goals and imports you feed them, and Microsoft describes none of them reading your Google source account or your CRM. Where Claude adds something is the gap between Google, the CRM and Microsoft: import drift, AI optimized search terms, offline conversions with real deal values, Clarity friction per campaign. If your account was imported once, rarely changes and already counts the right conversions, Copilot plus Microsoft's MCP server in Claude is enough.

AILoopwise is Certified in the Claude Partner Network.

Is this a fit?

A good fit

  • PPC managers running a scheduled Import from Google Ads whose import results nobody reads
  • Teams whose CRM knows which Microsoft clicks became revenue while the account counts form fills
  • Search campaigns with AI Max switched on and nobody reviewing the AI optimized search terms
  • Sites with Clarity installed whose paid landing pages were never checked against campaign data

Not a fit

  • Bing Places automation: we found no public API, so we do not offer it
  • A small account imported once and rarely touched: Copilot and Microsoft's MCP server cover it

Limits and data handling

  • The Bing Ads API needs a developer token requested by a Super Admin plus OAuth consent per user; the token adds no access beyond the user's role.1
  • Offline conversions must fall within the last 90 days, after the click and inside the goal's conversion window, sent in UTC; Microsoft ignores duplicates after the first.5,4
  • Clarity's export allows 10 calls per project per day, three dimensions and 1,000 rows with no pagination, so history exists only if the build stores each day.15
  • Each Customer Match upload with customer data accepts Microsoft's terms and affirms you may lawfully disclose that personal data to Microsoft.7
  • Microsoft's MCP pilot was read-only per its 2026-06-17 blog; we re-check before each build and write nothing through it.13,14

We agree with you, per project, where each part of the system runs and who can access the data, typically inside your own systems and accounts. When we use Claude through Anthropic's API, the model call runs at Anthropic and is governed by contract.

How a project runs

  1. 01

Find the loop We sit with your team and list the work that comes back every week. Then we pick the loop that costs the most hours.

  2. 02

Map it Every step, every tool, every decision: where the inquiry lands, who touches it, what they look up, where the time goes.

  3. 03

Build the agents Each step gets an agent with the skills to do it inside your tools. One reads and sorts every inquiry, one logs it in the CRM, one pulls up the customer's history, one drafts the reply and the follow-ups.

  4. 04

Add the checkers A second set of agents checks every result: wrong data, a duplicate, a missed follow-up. Anything unclear goes to a person.

  5. 05

Close the loop The loop runs. Your team approves, handles the exceptions and talks to the customer.

In step 2 we agree who holds Super Admin for the developer token, which Entra app the MCP connector uses, and which Clarity admin issues the export token.

Questions about Microsoft Advertising

What is Microsoft Advertising AI Max?
AI Max is Microsoft AI inside standard Search campaigns: search term matching, text customization and final URL expansion. Microsoft's blog of 2026-08-27 says it is available to all advertisers and on by default for new Search campaigns. Its matches show as 'AI optimized' in search term reports. Brand inclusions, brand exclusions and term exclusions steer it, and your negative keywords still apply.
What does Copilot in Microsoft Advertising Platform do?
Copilot in the Microsoft Advertising Platform diagnoses issues across your account, campaigns and conversion tracking, summarises and compares performance, recommends assets from your URL, and creates image, banner and video assets. It works inside one Microsoft account. Its product page does not describe it reading your Google source account or CRM; a Claude build from AILoopwise covers that part.
Does Microsoft Advertising show ads in Copilot?
Yes, through Performance Max: Microsoft's product page says it reaches audiences across Microsoft properties, including Copilot. Microsoft's API guide lists Performance Max as open beta, built from asset groups that Microsoft AI combines into ads. Other Copilot ad formats we have not confirmed from a Microsoft page, so this page does not describe them.
Is there a Microsoft Advertising MCP server?
Yes. Microsoft runs an Advertising MCP server, also searched as the Bing Ads MCP server, for Copilot Studio, GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT and Claude. Its blog of 2026-06-17 calls it an open pilot with read-only access; the setup guide, dated 2026-10-20, states no access level. Each user sees only the accounts their Microsoft Advertising role allows.
How do I connect Microsoft Ads to Claude or ChatGPT?
For Microsoft Ads and Claude, add Microsoft's Advertising MCP server as a custom connector, choose your own OAuth client, and register Claude's callback URL in your Entra app registration. Microsoft's guide covers ChatGPT as well. Jobs that run on a schedule, such as offline conversions, use the Bing Ads API with a developer token, because the MCP pilot is read-only.
How do I connect Microsoft Clarity to Claude?
Use Microsoft's Clarity MCP server: Claude's connector directory lists it as made by Microsoft, and it authenticates with a Clarity data export token from a project admin. It queries dashboard data, lists session recordings and searches Clarity's documentation. For history beyond three days, a build stores one Data Export API pull a day, since the API allows ten calls per project daily.
Does Microsoft Clarity use AI?
Yes: generative AI powers Copilot in Clarity, which summarises a session recording in plain language, and Microsoft warns the output can be wrong. Clarity's AI Visibility section also holds a Citations dashboard, generally available since 2026-05-13, showing which of your pages AI answers cite and the queries behind them. Neither joins Clarity with your ad campaigns; that needs the export API.
Microsoft Ads vs Google Ads: what changes when you import?
The ads can match; the upkeep differs. A scheduled Import from Google Ads updates existing bids and campaign budgets by default, carries AI Max settings over from matching Google campaigns, and leaves removed Google items live on Microsoft unless DeleteRemovedEntities is on. The Bing Ads API also still needs a developer token. Read GetImportResults after every run.
