Google Ads automation around Performance Max, AI Max and Smart Bidding
Smart Bidding sets every bid from the conversions you send. We connect Claude to Google Ads, GA4, Tag Manager and Business Profile for the inputs and reports around it. Which writes wait for a person is your choice.
How do you use AI in Google Ads?
Google Ads automation with AI runs on two layers. Performance Max, AI Max for Search and Smart Bidding work inside the auction. AILoopwise connects Claude through the Google Ads API or Google's Google Ads MCP server for the layer around it: CRM conversions, search-term negatives, GA4 and Tag Manager audits. You set which writes a named person approves.
Where things stand
- As of 2026-11-04, Google sets Google Ads API access per Cloud project; developer tokens were sunset on 2026-09-09.1
- As of 2026-11-04, Google's developer page calls the Google Ads MCP server read-only; its GitHub repository adds confirm-first asset and label writes.3,4
- As of 2026-11-04, Google points new offline click conversion and enhanced-conversions-for-leads integrations to the Data Manager API.10,8
What we work on in Google (Ads, GA4, Tag Manager, Business Profile, Local Services Ads)
Google Ads: Search, Smart Bidding and AI Max for Search
Search campaigns with responsive search ads. Smart Bidding sets bids with Google AI; AI Max for Search adds search term matching, text customization and final URL expansion.
Reading the search terms report, AI Max rows included, against what you sell; drafting 30-character headlines and 90-character descriptions.
Performance Max
One goal-based campaign across YouTube, Display, Search, Discover, Gmail and Maps, built from asset groups, audience signals and conversion goals.
Reading its search terms report, proposing negatives with a reason, and checking asset text against your brand rules.
Google Analytics 4 (GA4)
Properties, data streams, events, key events, custom dimensions and Google Ads links; the Admin API deprecates conversion events in favour of key events.
Matching defined key events against the events that fire, answering funnel or realtime questions in Claude.
Google Tag Manager
Containers of tags, triggers and variables, edited in workspaces and published as versions. Consent Mode reads ad_storage, analytics_storage, ad_user_data and ad_personalization.
Finding tags with no trigger, duplicate conversion tags, and tags that fire before the consent default.
Google Business Profile
The listing that controls how a business, its photos, posts and reviews appear on Google.
AI to manage Google Business Profile reviews: a drafted reply per new review; sensitive ones go to the owner undrafted.
Local Services Ads
Local Services campaigns whose leads arrive as calls, messages, bookings or coupons, readable with their conversations through the Google Ads API.
Turning each lead and its conversation into a CRM record with a next step, and drafting lead feedback.
Google Merchant Center
Google's product data console. The Merchant API, a redesign of the Content API for Shopping, returns each product's status and data quality issues.
Proposing titles of up to 150 characters, product type and attributes first, without promotion, price or shipping.
Looker Studio
Google's dashboard tool; its API, documented as Data Studio, manages report and data source assets.
The written monthly summary beside the dashboard: what moved in Google Ads and GA4, and why.

- Result
- a review sheet; nothing reaches the account until a row is approved
- Approved by
- the PPC manager who owns the account13,14

How we connect
Four routes connect AI to Google Ads and GA4. Your Cloud project's access level and your approvals decide which fits.
| Route | What it is | Fits when | Limits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Built inPerformance Max, AI Max for Search and Smart Bidding | Google's own AI: bids in every auction, search term matching beyond your keywords, text customization and final URL expansion. | the conversion actions you send already measure what your business values | it optimises toward the conversion goals you set, so a form fill counts like a closed deal unless you send the difference.11,12,13 |
| Vendor MCPGoogle Ads MCP server | Google's open-source server with three tools: list_accessible_customers, search for GAQL queries and get_resource_metadata. Google's page names Claude among the clients that connect through an OAuth custom connector. | a person asks account questions in Claude, unscheduled | reads only per Google's page; the repository adds confirm-first asset and label tools. Neither lists a bid or budget tool. The hosted endpoint is an allowlisted pilot.3,4 |
| Vendor MCPGoogle Analytics MCP server | Google's open-source server for GA4: run_report, run_funnel_report, run_realtime_report, property details and Google Ads links. | GA4 questions asked in Claude Code or another MCP client | read-only scope by default; annotations need --allow-write and the edit scope.5,6 |
| API buildA build in your Cloud project | Our service calling the Google Ads, Data Manager, GA4, Tag Manager, Business Profile and Merchant APIs on a schedule or a CRM event. | jobs that run on a schedule: weekly search terms, daily conversion batches, morning pacing, review queues | Explorer caps daily operations on production accounts; Basic needs brand verification, Standard a manual audit.1,8,16,18 |
Performance Max, AI Max for Search and Smart Bidding decide bids, matches and ad text inside Google's auction; we do not rebuild them. They learn from the conversion goals and assets you give them. A Claude build works on those inputs: qualified CRM deals instead of form fills, reasoned negatives, Merchant Center titles to spec, consent-aware tags. If your conversions are clean and questions occasional, Google's two MCP servers are enough.
AILoopwise is Certified in the Claude Partner Network.
Is this a fit?
A good fit
- Advertisers whose CRM knows which leads became revenue while Google Ads counts form fills
- PPC managers on Search or Performance Max who no longer read the search terms report
- Analytics owners unsure whether GA4 key events and Tag Manager consent defaults still match the site
- Teams with a Business Profile active 60+ days and reviews waiting for a reply
Not a fit
- Review replies on a profile younger than 60 days: Google grants no API access yet
- Occasional account questions from one person: Google's MCP servers cover that
Limits and data handling
- Required Minimum Functionality binds only Standard-access tools that third parties use; a tool for one advertiser's own use is exempt, so each build runs in that advertiser's Cloud project.2
- Since 2026-06-15, UploadClickConversions fails for projects with no offline click uploads between 2025-12-17 and 2026-06-15; new builds start on the Data Manager API.7,10
- For users in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, Google's EU user consent policy requires recorded consent for ad personalisation; the build sends the consent values Google's APIs take and holds rows without them.21,9,34
We agree with you, per project, where each part of the system runs and who can access the data, typically inside your own systems and accounts. When we use Claude through Anthropic's API, the model call runs at Anthropic and is governed by contract.
How a project runs
- 01
Find the loop We sit with your team and list the work that comes back every week. Then we pick the loop that costs the most hours.
- 02
Map it Every step, every tool, every decision: where the inquiry lands, who touches it, what they look up, where the time goes.
- 03
Build the agents Each step gets an agent with the skills to do it inside your tools. One reads and sorts every inquiry, one logs it in the CRM, one pulls up the customer's history, one drafts the reply and the follow-ups.
- 04
Add the checkers A second set of agents checks every result: wrong data, a duplicate, a missed follow-up. Anything unclear goes to a person.
- 05
Close the loop The loop runs. Your team approves, handles the exceptions and talks to the customer.
Step 2 settles the Google account, the Cloud project with API access, and which writes stay proposals.
Questions about Google (Ads, GA4, Tag Manager, Business Profile, Local Services Ads)
- How do I use AI in Google Ads?
- Use Google's AI for the auction and Claude for the work around it. Smart Bidding, Performance Max and AI Max for Search set bids, matches and ad text. Through AILoopwise, Claude handles search-term negatives, CRM conversions, GA4 audits and the monthly report. Anything that spends money or goes public waits for a person's approval by default; you can set that per step.
- Does Google Ads use AI?
- Yes. Smart Bidding uses Google AI to set bids for conversions or conversion value in every auction. Performance Max combines your assets with generative AI across Google's channels. AI Max for Search adds search term matching, text customization and final URL expansion to Search campaigns. All of them optimise toward the conversion goals you set.
- Does Google Ads have an MCP server?
- Yes. Google publishes the open-source Google Ads MCP server with list_accessible_customers, search for GAQL queries, and get_resource_metadata. As of 2026-11-04 its developer page calls it read-only, while the GitHub repository adds asset and label tools that write only after confirmation. No bid or budget tool appears in either.
- How do I connect Google Ads to Claude?
- Through the Google Ads MCP server: Google's page names Claude among the clients that connect through an OAuth custom connector. Your Cloud project needs Explorer, Basic or Standard access; developer tokens are no longer needed. Scheduled jobs such as conversion batches run as a build on the API instead.
- Google Ads AI Max vs Performance Max: what is the difference?
- AI Max for Search is a layer on an existing Search campaign, not a campaign type: search term matching, text customization and final URL expansion. Performance Max is its own campaign across all Google Ads inventory, built from asset groups and audience signals. Both report search terms; AI Max rows carry an AI Max match type.
- How do I connect Google Analytics to Claude?
- Use Google's open-source Google Analytics MCP server, which documents setup in Claude Code. With the Analytics read-only scope, Claude runs standard, funnel and realtime reports and reads property details and Google Ads links. Annotation writes need --allow-write and the edit scope; we switch them on only when the analytics owner asks.
- Can I connect Google Tag Manager to Claude?
- Not through a Google server: Google's MCP index lists none for Tag Manager as of 2026-11-04. A build reads containers, tags, triggers and versions through Tag Manager API v2 and stages any fix in a new workspace. Your tag owner previews and publishes by default, because a published container changes what every report measures.
- Can a Google Ads AI agent change my bids or budgets?
- Only if you decide it should. Our default is that no model step writes a bid, bid strategy or budget: pacing ends in an alert with a proposed change, negatives and ad text arrive as proposals, and a person makes the change in Google Ads. Google's MCP server lists no bid or budget tool either.
